Our very successful SHO-10 High Efficiency Monitor has proved to be highly adept at handling the subtle nuances which music demands while excelling as a system for movies and dialog and doing both with neutrality and clarity. The 2012 version of the SHO-10 offers improved cabinetry while still maintaining this high standard of performance.
The 2012 SHO-10’s new cabinet is constructed of 3/4" MDF. It sports a new, thicker, stronger, slightly textured, matte black finish and comes with a full length, cloth grille. But there is more to talk about than merely aesthetics. The 2012 SHO-10 maintains the design of the 2011 version with a slotted vent near the bottom of the front baffle, enabling the woofer and compression driver to be as close together as possible for a more cohesive performance.
While the SHO-10s will do exceptionally well with music, this monitor projects the imaging and sound stage toward the listener a bit and puts slightly more emphasis on movie dialog. It is crisp, clear, detailed, smooth and non-fatiguing - a compelling combination combined with outstanding placement flexibility in a size that belies its performance.
The SHO-10 is wall or stand mountable and, due to the vent being on the front baffle, it will also work well inside cabinetry or on shelves. With a 90 x 90 degree controlled dispersion wave guide, the SHO-10 can be used in either a vertical or horizontal position.
The response of the SHO-10 is optimized for use of the THX-recommended crossover standard of 80 Hz with a quality subwoofer handling bass duties below 80 Hz. Feed these monitors 100 watts from a quality receiver and they will deliver 117 dB outdoors at one meter ground plane, PER speaker, with no compression across the bandwidth of 72 Hz to 20,000 Hz.
The level of dynamics the SHO-10 High Efficiency Monitors can deliver is outstanding. Dolby reference levels call for each speaker to be able to deliver 105 dB at the listening position and the SHO-10s deliver this with room to spare. Power handling is 150 Watts RMS and 300 Watts peak.
Delivering clear, neutral mids and highs with a bit of emphasis on dialog for movies, a system of SHO-10s should also include a subwoofer to deliver the lows. With five (5) or seven (7) SHO-10s and your choice of our CraigSUB series 18” subwoofers, you will be in the midst of an audio experience of special quality without having robbed the piggy bank!
